q2:It is a pity that the government is not concerned with the situation at Mathare. The government through the Ministry of local government should be involved in Mathare by managing all the sewers, public toilets and dumpsites. Unfortunately, this is not happening.Dumpsites are neither emptied nor conected together. It is all left and scattered almost everywhere. The Public toilets have been turned to personal business for some groups of individuals. Through the Ministries of Public Health and medical services, the government has ensured that few public hospitals and clinics are built. It is a bad show that the public hospitals cannot help the villagers. The government should take an initiative to build more hospitals to help reduce the medication costs.

AMREF which has greatly helped health care wise. They do a great job and they en courage all the people to have free Hiv test and if positive they are also encouraged to take anti-retroviral medicine (ARVS) They offer free medical services to sick patients whenever possible and they have a wing of taking care of disabled persons or people who cannot go to the hospitals. They also workshops, trainings and seminars to teach citizens on good and healthy practices for a better life. They have a programme called Community Health workmanship which is basically about taking basic health care facilities to every homesteads in the slums including the grassroots. This has proven to be helpful and now the hospital is not overcrowded as it used to be because of their useful trainings. I really thank the Amref organization for being our one and only health care in the slums.
